Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis which affects hair follicles and is notable for open and/or closed comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) and inflammatory lesions including papules, pustules, and nodules.

Four factors contribute to the formation of acne:

    • Irregular shedding of dead skin cells
    • Overproduction of oil (sebum)
    • Build-up of bacteria
    • Inflammation

Acne is very common. It consistently ranks among the top three most prevalent skin conditions in the general population as found in large studies in the U.K., France, and the U.S.A. Let’s examine some data:

Acne is almost universal in the teen years:

    • Acne affects almost 80% of adolescents between 13 and 18 years old
    • A degree of acne affects nearly all people between the ages of 15 and 17
    • Moderate-to-severe acne affects around 20% of young people
    • Severity of acne correlates with pubertal maturity
    • Acne may be presenting at a younger age because of earlier puberty

However, acne is a chronic disease and can persist, in some cases, into adulthood for unclear reasons.

AGNICE® is a food supplement made partly of whey protein complex, vitamins and a mineral.

The whey protein complex has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that may serve as an adjunct to conventional therapies for the treatment of Acne vulgaris.

The effects of the mineral on Acne lesions have been studied for years, in both topical and oral administration. It has both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects and it may decrease sebum production. There is important clinical evidence to support its administration as an adjunct modality for Acne treatment.

The EFSA (European Food Safety Agency) has approved some interesting and useful health claims for the vitamins that are part of the composition of the product that are related to a greater or lesser extent with Acne. They are related to maintenance of normal skin, antioxidant effects, reduction of tiredness and fatigue, regulation of hormonal activity, and contribution to normal cell division.

The pharmaceutical form of AGNICE® is granules with pleasant fruity flavor and packed in 20 sachets. The recommended dose is one sachet per day.

AGNICE® was approved in Europe as a dietary supplement on February 2014 for the first time.
